Why Is My 6 Month Old German Shepherd Going Backwards With Crate Training?

My six month old female German Shepherd was almost completely crate trained the last week she started peeing in her kennel again. I let her out then an hour later I put her in her kennel to relax but then she peed I don’t know why. Please help me what should I do?

  1. • Because you are confusing “imprisonment” with”training”.
    • Because you have been using the crate to force her to BREAK her natural instincts to get away from her nest before going toilet
    • Because she is coming on-heat.
At least the first 2 of those are true, probably all three.
There is a small possibility of:
    • She has a urinary tract infection.
    • She has already been spayed and has developed early incontinence as a result.
    ◙ Crate training:
That term means training a pet to regard a crate as a safe place where it can sleep without being trodden on. It’s dead easy. My 15 years old has never seen any of my 3 crates. My youngest didn’t see a crate until she was 8 years old and had to be flown to a stud dog. Three rewarded trips into the crate the night before achieved the training so that she hopped in & out of the crate at the airport. People who use crates all the time should leave it OPEN except when there are visitors with brattish children – and should get rid of those visitors within a few minutes! – or when their nervous great-aunt visits.
    ◙ Toilet training:
That term means training a pet as to where it is allowed to go toilet. It requires the owner to give the pup 100% attention for the first few days, learning its timing and its signal, then picking it up and carrying it to the right place, followed by silently STAYING there until the pup stops exploring and does its business. At which time the owner praises & rewards the pup.
My last bit.ch came inside 24/7 at 8-8½ weeks old and had the run of the house apart from the closed lounge & spare bedroom. I had her paper-trained that day, and also almost trained that my bedroom is forbidden even though its door is never shut.
Training of ANY kind is an active thing, requiring the trainer’s full attention and consistency. You don’t toilet train a pet by expecting an inert passive thing such as a crate to do it. Would you expect a mother to train her child to control its bladder & bowels by locking the tot in a tiny play pen?
You need to NOW start actually toilet training her, the way you should have done when you got her at (presumably) 7-9 weeks old.
I wonder whether you have even been in an actual club training class with her, one that started when she was 18-22 weeks old, and where the instructor coaches YOU to improve your techniques? A second benefit of being in a class is that the pet learns to pay attention regardless of what other dogs & people are doing.
And despite [GREG]’s comment, dogs need CONSTANT access to water. It is essential for their temperature control mechanism, and to keep their kidneys flushed clean.
You obviously have MUCH to learn about dog ownership. So join SOME of the 400+ YahooGroups dedicated to various aspects of living with GSDs, so that the people you ask questions of actually KNOW about the breed. Each group’s Home page tells you which aspects they like to discuss, and how active they are. Most allow you to include photos so that you can show how your pet is progressing or reacting.

  2. Try to monitor her food and water consumption. Give food and water at the same time so you can predict when she has to go! Use positive reinforcement when she goes outside and she will learn to let you know!

  3. dog-training-diy.com is great! Payday Loan debt consolidation is a fairly new type of service available to consumers that have overwhelming payday loan debt Upon searching online I found out how these programs work
